You Can Make a Difference in the Adirondacks


Join us in Tupper Lake in the heart of the Adirondacks, a bike-friendly and walk-friendly town. With the Adirondack Park as our backyard and various trail systems and lakes close to town, there is plenty to do and see! On off days, Members are often out exploring, hiking, paddling, skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife watching, biking, swimming, climbing, or participating in community events. The new Adirondack Rail Trail now provides access to Saranac Lake (approximately 24 miles) and Lake Placid (35 miles).
As a full-time Member of The Wild Center’s AmeriCorps project, you will experience specialized training, which stress observation, co-teaching, planning, and developing and implementing educational programs. You will work with local schools, arts organizations and libraries to meet the needs of Tupper Lake students and the community at-large. You will help develop and present programs, collect and analyze program data and work with young people on service projects.

About The Wild Center

Opened to the public in 2006, The Wild Center provides engaging science-based and accessible learning opportunities for 100,000 visitors including 7,000 K-12 students each year. As the state’s first Silver LEED-certified museum; our campus is a demonstration site for sustainable design located on a 115-acre campus of water and forest resources and all-season trails.

Programs foster a culture of life-long learning based on a holistic approach that links sciences to arts and humanities, stressing observation, critical thinking and visual literacy and offering audiences multiple viewpoints and modes of expression. We look for new pathways to fulfill our mission, deepen the visitor experience and create connections between people and nature.

The Wild Center is a cultural anchor and destination for residents and visitors alike. In 2023, readers of USA Today ranked The Wild Center as the second best science museums in the country. The Wild Center was also one of 10 finalists to receive the 2023 American Climate Leadership Award.
